Most golfers buy their clubs right off the shelf. Most are never fitted by a pro. That’s probably OK for the average golfer because none of us are threatening to turn professional any time soon.

But to get the most out of your swing and game, getting fitted for the right kind of club is a must. Part of the fitting process includes measurment for the optimum club shaft, both in length, stiffness, tip, kick, weight, material, etc.

Most maunfacturers work with major shaft companies to produce and make available clubs that perform with their specific club model. Invariably the end-user has a choice of club/shaft – particularly with drivers and fairway woods, though irons and hybrids can be purchased with specific shafts too.

Major makers also carry club lines with their stock shaft – and thats the one most average golfers purchase. It may be a regular flex graphite shaft or a basic metal shaft. Whatever it is, it’s off the shelf and the one we always “test” while in the store. While there are numerous problems with just buying a club after hitting a few shots in the store, the main one is you typically are hindered in trying different shafts on the same club.

Demo days with major manufacturers is the best way to try out clubs. Nearly every conceivable combination of specific clubs/shafts/lie is available. And comparisons between brands can be conducted while hitting full shots and seeing the true trajectory of the ball.
Get Fitted

Getting fitted is a must. Two players with identical swing speeds might need completely different shafts – shorter swings need a stiffer tip while longer swings typically require a stiffer butt and soft tip.

Weight too, makes a difference. Today’s 460cc driver heads can impact the total weight of the club. Less weight means faster swing speeds – and swings that maintain their plane. Afterall, the ultimate goal of every golfer is to: maintain speed, plane and have a square face at impact. The club shaft figures into all of that.

Cost isn’t necessarily a factor in the best shaft for you. There are shaft models that demand as much as $1,200! But is that one right for you? Probably not – after all Tiger Woods uses a Diamana shaft that is available to every golfer.

Ultimately, it’s performance and feel that should indicate to the golfer which shaft is best. So before you purchase your next set of clubs, get professionally fitted. That way you’ll play the shaft that fits your swing instead of just getting the shaft. Get it?

As an Average Joe Golfer, my goal is to review courses, equipment, instructional videos and training aids and all things related to golf that is targeted toward the Average Joe Golfer.

Swinging the Clubs play an important role in the Sport of Golf. Swinging entirely depends upon the quality and movement. An important aspect to determine the quality and the movement of the club swing is by knowing the swing weight of the golf club. When one is using borrowed clubs or second hand clubs, then he would need to get accustomed to the swing for fitting the weights already existing. However, if you have plans for new golf clubs, then ensure to consider the Club weight before ending up the purchase. There are many ways deciding upon the weight of clubs you would be comfortable with. One precise equation exists when buying good golf clubs, however it would involve a tradeoff. Lighter the gold clubs, faster is the swing whereas, heavier the golf clubs, more is the momentum in playing.

Heavy and Light

Many professional golf players use heavier golf clubs so that it could help them in building those muscles when they place their swing shot. When clubs are heavier during the swing, it becomes very effective, just like lifting weights. The weight of the golf club would strain the muscles ideally helping to increase the overall strength. Playing golf with heavier golf clubs is one good way to ensure stronger muscles. Hence putting that extra power would be ideal in some circumstances. Any one beginning with the golf game would feel unnatural as the swing is made, being not so comfortable with the involved motion. However, as time goes on, muscle building would make things easier and natural as well.

The speed of your swing or shot entirely depends up on the weight of the gold clubs. If you are in a habit of going for faster swings, then a lighter golf club would be an ideal choice as swings become forceful. On the other hand if you plan to hit a less forceful shot, heavier golf clubs become wise alternatives as it would add the extra momentum. When the gold clubs are new, one might overshoot a little, however, this is valid only till you are used to the club weight. It is very important to test a trial game with the club you are going to purchase, before coming to the conclusion. This trial would assist you in deciding if buying the golf club is essentially worth it.

Ensure to Purchase wisely

When you are unsure about the right weight clubs, then the best option would be to get an advice from some experienced golfer having a little more experience in the sport of Golf. Some Golf stores might also provide you with few words of wisdom helping you in some manner. Your essential goal should be purchasing a golf club suiting your swinging style as making a mistake here would disrupt your game. Get in touch with a person having finer eye for golf and also the clubs so that you know what exactly you can buy for the game.

Evidently, choosing a golf club has never been a quick or easy task for any professional player. This is not less expensive either. Ascertain to remember these tips when you go for your golf clubs’ purchase. Utilize all resources coming your way so that it helps you target a club which would act as an asset in the green fields.

It would seem, on the surface, that improving a golf swing should be rather easy compared to, let’s say, a tennis stroke. After all, in tennis you are running full tilt to get into position and get your racket back and your feet into position to hit a ball that is coming toward you at a good pace and then timing it all to stroke the ball and apply the proper force and spin to aim the shot where you want it. Conversely, in golf, the ball is very stationary and perched nicely upon a tee and you can take practice swings and then hit it at your convenience. Golf seems a whole lot simpler and easier than tennis. On the surface, that is.

After years of playing golf and getting really frustrated at trying to improve my scoring, I subscribed to several of the monthly magazines on the sport of golf. Each time a new edition of a magazine would hit my mailbox, I would delight in reading all of the articles in it to pick up several tips on how to improve my stance, hand control, approach, follow through, etc. Then I would venture out to the course or driving range to practice my newfound skills only to be real disappointed to find that the tips didn’t seem to work together!

Have you ever experienced this? When you set up and approach the ball, so many things are gong through your head that it’s hard to keep them straight. First, you have to think of the target line, your stance, the position of the ball relative to your left foot, and the comfort of your grip, etc. As you start into your backswing, a whole new set of issues go through your mind. The problem becomes how many issues and tips can a person think of in a second and a half that it takes to stroke the ball?

I think back to the book that got me started in my childhood. “Power Golf” by Ben Hogan was required reading in my house and Dad gave each one of his kids our own copy when we reached golfing age. (I think that was about 12 in my case!) Because all of the components of the swing were interlaced with each other, it all kind of ‘fit’ together and was rather simple and straightforward. Good, basic instruction.

Of course, a lot of balls have been lost since then and the game has changed so dramatically. Today’s clubs and balls perform so much better and it is so much easier to control slices and hooks with the new equipment. It all still comes back to the basic golf swing, doesn’t it?

I don’t know about you, but I find I get more out of reading a book on the subject than dissecting my stroke into 87 little pieces, getting various tips on each and trying to remembering them all in a flash while trying to swing the club.

The beautiful thing is that there are so many resources available on the internet, in golf stores, and at clubhouses everywhere. I personally like to read the many ebooks that are available on the internet. You can simply pay a small fee and download a book to target a specific golf swing issue. Whether your interest is in driving for more distance, controlling a slice or putting for dough, you can easily find good reference material on the subject on the internet. Most of them provide a ‘system’ rather than just a simple, stand alone tip. I find this is simpler to remember and to achieve consistency in than trying to assimilate lots of different ‘tips’ in my mind.

For little more than a sleeve of good balls, you can get great information from the comfort and privacy of your home. One of my golfing buddies introduced me to this last year after 2 putting 16 holes of the round and whipping me like a tired mule. He had not been that good a putter in the past and I was shocked to see the improvement he made. He then related to me how he had downloaded an ebook on putting and, with a single half hour on the practice green, he was able to improve his whole putting game tremendously. I can certainly vouch for that! And he even won enough from me on that round to pay for his darn ebook! That night, I surfed the net and found his secret and now I have not lost to him since!

For a good source of information on how to improve your golf swing, be sure to check out the many resources available on the internet. You’ll be glad you did!

You only need to look at the golf swings of the top players and you will see the huge disparity between the way they all swing the golf club. Each swing is so individual, like a signature, that after watching the top players in action for some time, either in the flesh of on television, you would be able to identify who is swinging even if you only see their silhouette.

Ernie Els, Vijay Singh, Davis Love, Tiger Woods, Padraig Harrington, Retief Goosen all have quite distinct swings.

Don’t get me wrong, all of these swings have much in common, particularly when it comes to the fundamentals like set up and alignment, grip etc.

But there the similarities end and each swing is different and reflects the players physical shape, their natural tempo and a lot of what they picked up when they first swing a club.

The lesson for you, the amateur golfer, is that your swing must reflect your tempo and your physical shape and you should not beat yourself up trying to swing the golf club like your hero, who is generally a finely tuned athlete with remarkable hand/eye co-ordination who has been reared on the practice range.
